The "Share" menu is pretty good, but I think it might be better and more used if they were aligned on a row for each topic. I attached a screenshot to give an idea of what I'm talking about.

Under Host settings, maybe have a "Social Network" portion to allow/disallow retweets, fb like, fb share, etc?

It would allow topics to be "Like"d with a single click, instead of going under a menu and selecting it.

If one were to try to eliminate the Share menu and add Twitter (retweet) and Facebook (Like) buttons as shown in the picture.... where would be the starting point? I was thinking on the usercontrol for posts page?

There was a reason why i added a share menu instead integrating the buttons...

- the share menu fits better in the forums themes (the buttons are also to distractive)

- handling the code manually is easier then using the social buttons scripts

- the buttons mostly use iframes which causes layout and security problems

I like the Share Menu, but I don't think many are noticing it. Actually, at times, I forget about it. That's what prompted this inquiry. I was on a site and noticed the cropped portion and thought dang that would be nice to have. ... then remembered the Share menu. :)

True, definitely true about the buttons being distractive. However, that was kinda what I was hoping for. To have people share/like a topic so their friends will see the topic i.e. my site and maybe that would attract more visitors.

If adding those buttons is a security problem, its not worth it. I'll have to think of another way to get the topics a little more "share-able"

That's the problem with such buttons, there are many articles around the web saying that nobody are using them (or only a very small amount) which brings up the question is something that appears to be useless worth the time to implement and maintain, and don't forget about privacy concern. And the biggest problem speed and performance.

I might just change the name/color scheme of the Share menu and remove a few of the odd ones.

Yes thats still the case it is faster then using the official buttons, i was talking about the buttons above.
