I am considering YAF for my site. I will be using shared hosting for my site. Will I be able to install this as a control in my website on my own or is there some type of permissions needed that only my hosting company will be able to install it. They charge $75 for each custom install and I hope to have lots of customers using it.

I run my YAF install on shared hosting, so it shouldn't be a custom job at all. The only thing you'll need to make sure is that your have a smtp relay for your email and possibly changing some perms to allow avatar upload and run no scripts for the Images folder.
