Hello,

I created an ASP.NET website with log-in, user and rolemanagement connected to the standard ASPNET SQL configuration database.

I also recently installed the open-source "YET ANOTHER FORUM" application to this website. I would like to have that members who log in to the website , would be automatically registrated to this forum. So if a new user to the website is created, his log-in account and password would be the same for the " Yet another FORUM" application. Can anybody knows how to deal with this?

Kind regards,

Phil

Download the YAF 1.9.3 SRC or BIN (found on this site)
Then merge the two web.config files, so the web.config in the webconfigs folder, to you root web.config file
Or even better, for a full guide on how to do this, simply follow this link

It jus me or theres not much support? (See lots of ananswered posts for weeks, "specially mine" )

I have read through this but I still have a question. This howto covers integration, but I'm only looking to point YAF at an existing website membership provider. I have a site with members already, and I need this to remain separate.

1) Is this possible?

2) Can I point YAF at my existing membership DB?

I do not quite understand what you meant by the 1st question.
Could you please give more detail?

As for the other question
Yes you can point YAF to your existing db
simply modify the onnection string from db.config
to point to your existing db.
And when you run the YAF installation, it will create the tables in the db you specified

I'll be real specific so there is no confusion.

I have an existing website WITHOUT forums. The website uses ASPNETDB authentication.

In the web.config of my existing application I can specify:

and

By doing this I am using the membership and profile provider infrastructure of ASP.NET

And so my question is...

Can I Add YAF 1.9.3 and have it point to the existing aspnet_membership and aspnet_users tables?

To further clarify. I do NOT want to merge YAF into an existing .Net project and use the same web.config. I want to keep YAF completely seperate, and only POINT to the existing DB for membership tables ONLY.

Thanks.

If you dont want to integrate YAF into your website, and just make it as a normal installation, the instructions for installation are supplied in the install.txt...

Because if all you want to do is install YAF to your existing database, then i think i have already answered that already...

Just modify the connectionstrings from db.config to point to your database

Lets say you wanted to connect to "database1" your connectionstrings should look something like this"

I assume you are running it on your server "localhost" and i assume your instance nam is "SQLESPRESS" (Otherwise just edit it to your instance name)

on the addname="database1" replace it with the name of your connectionstring in your root web.config
and Catalog="database1 to your existing database name that you want YAF installed in
