Hi,

I sign in members manually myself (don't allow open sign ups). To do this, I go to 'host' section and select 'new user' and then sign the person in. I believe the system then sends them back an auto response with a link for them to click for the log in. A user has told me when he tries to log in via the auto e mail link the system sends, it says 'invalid' (or something like that) and the user CAN NOT sign in. To this regard, I tried manually changing the password and telling the user to try signing in WITHOUT clicking on the link the auto response e mail gives and just try signing in with the new password. The user STILL CAN'T get on my site.

Is this a BUG with the software or am I doing something wrong.

Salient question is: HOW do I sign up a new member (myself given that open sign up is CLOSED) so that new member can access my site?

It is to my understanding that clicking on 'host', then 'users and roles', then 'new user' in which I fill in the screen name of new user, the e mail to the account and the password SHOULD work, but in some cases it does not.

I was toying with this idea:

WHAT IF I un-check the "require e mail verification" field?

Do you think that will help? I'm afraid to do that with no advice on whether or not doing that could cause another problem.

I ask this question because when a potential member writes to me personally (which they do for a sign up) their e mail is already verified by me. Also because a frequent problem they have when I sign them up myself and put in their e mail, the system tells them the validation link (on the auto e mail the system sends to the sign up) that the validation failed.

There is a little guide on how to setup a private forum with manual account approval

I think some of that was done already. Recently my forum was upgraded and there are glitches or changes in the software that are difficult for me.

The question I'm seeking an answer to is:

IF I disable (uncheck) the require e mail verification field (given the circumstances that I myself sign up users and close the option for self sign up) will doing that preclude the GLITCH that people have when I sign them up. The glitch is that when I sign them up myself, they get an auto response from the site with some verification link on it but when they click on it the system reject it.

--OR--

Can the problem I'm having be solved by disabling the 'require e mail verification' field?

Edited to add:

My question differs from the tutorial provided because the option for self sign up is CLOSED on my board even though the 'start' for any new user is 'unapproved'. Like when I sign them up myself, the start is 'unapproved' and then I make the approval.
