how do you switch off the moderators from showing on the main forum board.
we have quite a few and by the time they're all listed the the discussion area looks massive and takes up too much space on the page.
any help would be greatly appreciated

There is is a Host setting to enable/disable the List. Host->Host Settings->Display Settings->"Show Moderator List"

Here is what my admin section looks like for that.

OK, so it's hard to read and did not copy and paste right. Basically NO ONE is defined as a moderator on my board. Not even ME the admin.
How I do it is to define a NEW group. I define that group as EDITOR. Editors can delete posts, make changes within other people's posts which is same function as moderator (I think). Then I go into other section and define an "access mask" for an EDITOR. The access mask I give to editor has same permissions as that of a moderator. It does not take up the type of space you describe. The fact that someone is an 'editor' just shows in the left part of post where the groups the member belongs to are listed. The access masks are in blue and you see the editor's access mask is same as moderator. But does not automatically do what you don't want because 'editor' is a new group I defined where I think a "moderator" is pre-defined by the system and maybe 'defaults' to filling up space as you describe?

I will have to look, but I don't know if that feature was included in the version(s) you have. 1.9.1.8 is several years old and many many features were added since. I also have to get back to you in the PMs as well -- sorry for the delay --

If you can't find it using the forum search, try my signature link -- searches this site using Google: Google is my Friend

The person who asked the question probably has a newer version than I have. I certainly can't find the settings that 'tha-wacha' describes. Just saying I don't use the "moderator" pre-definition they give but instead I define a new class called "editor" and assign same access masks as a moderator would usually have.
