Another feature usability question from me...😁 Almost feel like spamming the forum with 1.9.5.x questions now...😊

Shoutbox/chat feature is something my members have requested for many years, but I don't wish to clog up the default forum display so I haven't implemented it since I don't want that big blob at the top of the forum page... Just want it like a kind of extra feature that can be selected by the users so they can have a chat window too...

Is there some easy way to have a link beside the "Forum, Search, Members" and so on, in the top menu part with a link to the "Fly out" representation of the Shoutbox? Registered members only, of course...

What do you mean? It is collapsed by default and only uses 1 header height. Users can make the option themself to open the Shoutbox or leave it closed. So, it is user specific setting.
And only signed in people see this Shoutbox.

But not to use it for your forum is an option you have of coarse. Just remove the line from /pages/forum.aspx

Ok, not showing the bar seems easily doable...

http://mysite.com/forum/popup.aspx?g=shoutbox  + enable the shoutbox in the admin settings, it could work?

Just remove the header from forum.aspx as Underground mentioned ...

http://demo.drhack.net/DesktopModules/YetAnotherForumDotNet/popup.aspx?g=shoutbox  in IFrame Module and its working , although some customization will be required to make it tidy and small , if u want it in an already built page

Tried the concept, and it seems to work.

Just need to fix the popup window size...

Thank you for your comments on this. 👍

Would be a nice feature to see who are online on the shoutbox/chat... Ie, those members of the forum who have the shoutbox opened, either in the expanded forum top mode or the "Fly out" mode...

Just an idea passed on to the clever YAF developers... I'm am certainly not in that category, I'm just nagging about usability features from a forum admin perspective...😂

Agreed ...
and/or "Invite ______ to Chat" option which shows a Pop-up on the other users screen same like the new msg notification .. so they can open up the shoutbox
