I've tried several times to upgrade to 2.0 from 1.9.6 and each time I get errors like this.

I had a similar issue when upgrading - it was due to the fact that new key constraints are violated by data already in your database. Check your PoserWorldCommunity table to see if you have any records for user ids which no longer exist in your system. If this is the case, then the problem is that the database update scripts need to include referential checks for new keys that are being added before they attempt to add the keys and to either just clean up that data or preserve it somewhere else if necessary.

Sorry .. so in your database "PoserWorldCommunity" you have a yaf_ReputationVote table and a yaf_User table. The sql that is failing to run is creating a constraint saying that the "ReputationToUserID" field in the "RepuationVote" table must line up to a valid user in the "User" table.

So you can run a quick query to see if you have any records in this table that would violate that constraint:

SELECT * FROM dbo.yaf_ReputationVote
WHERE ReputationToUserID NOT IN (SELECT userID FROM dbo.yaf_User)

If you do, those records need to be removed before the constraint can be added to the table so that those sorts of issues with referential integrity will not be allowed by the database.

I deleted the 5 records and re-checked. The Contraints.sql query still gives errors. With or without it, the forum seems to run properly without any errors in the log.

However, if I run the upgrade / install via the web browser rather than a straight query it completes properly now.

So I guess this issue is solved.

Indeed, after clearing out those records you should then be able to run the install/upgrade scripts properly which should get your database into the correct state for the new version.

In YAF 2.1 this issue is fixed, when deleting a user the reputationtouserid will be correctly deleted to prevent this issue.
