vikrammalhotra, from Visual Studio bring up the property pages for the web site and go to the "Build" section.
From there, ensure that the target framework is set to 3.5.

Make sure you have good web.config file in the Application root folder.

The simplest setup is to copy the recommended_web-config and rename it, should work.
