number of posts it takes to make a 2nd page

im running 1.9.3 final.. and in one thread a ton of pictures are uploaded.. takes forever for the thread to load. how many replies does it take to create a page 2, page 3, etc?? can i adjust it.?

the last 2 settings set page size
