I AM NOT TECHNICAL, but can cobble together a Frontpage website and hang it on GoDaddy.
I found YAF the other day, and mounted it on our GoDaddy site. Seamless integration, very easy even for a non-tech.

Now, maybe I am getting a little techie here, but I found it pretty easy to modify my theme, add my website logo to the page, as well as a link back to my website. I seem to be able to get email through, once I changed the SMTPOUT.secureserver.net option as suggested in these pages. My hat is off to YAF...so far so good.

:?: HERE'S MY QUESTION: Can I use YAF in a manner like a listserv? In other words, send broadcast email to many users through YAF? And have users update/maintain/add/subtract their own email addresses?

If so, how can I pre-load authorized members and their email addresses?

We are a small youth sports org site and our President and sometimes individual coaches wish to email (1) the whole organization or (2) individual teams.

Broadcast email - not in the version your running; i think its coming in 1.93 (there's the option but i haven't tried).

Pre-load users - without getting really techie is to go to admin - users create user for each user and then tell users how to log in something like you could set the password to their surname and dob if you have that info. Not what your after though, but its shorting than doing the register process.

Once logged in they can take care of their personal information i.e. email themselves.

Sorry can't be of much help;

Thanks MEK. I see the User Entry form you referenced. That's probably a good starting place for me...uggh. I'll have to pump in 150 names & emails...I was hoping I could dump into a db file somewhere. Nevertheless, that'll get us started.

Broadcast...there is an option for the Admin to send email to ALL USERS/ADMINISTRATION/GUEST/MEMBER. I would think the Admin, at least, could send a community-wide email to all users, no? But maybe we can't establish subgroups.

I like your RTFM reference. If only....

Appreciate your help...I'll probably be back here a few times. Thanks for your patience. I'm going to try to stick with this and get it to work for our web community. So far I'm impressed. Like I say, it was easy for a non-techie to edit css files, etc. following online instructions in these forums.

Well you could create some SQL Insert into's for the YAF_User table, if you want to get techie. You'd need a MD5 hashed password to do this however. All this is if your prepared to run some sql scripts against your database.
So you could create an ordinary user, check the yaf_user table for that user, then create a sql insert per user using the same password for everyone.
Just depends on what your comfortable doing.. I suppose.

Regarding broadcast, I thought i'd seen the feature somewhere so its entirely possible its in your version as well (i've never used it), you definately can't do to subgroups afaik.

Hit us back if you have any further queries.
