Hi, Please can some one tell me what is the [b]purpose of Ranks or Significance [/b]of the Ranks in YAF. How its works and how it can be used in forums. Thanks Dev11

Ranks are have a similar function like the Roles you can assign various User Specific Settings to a Rank (take a Look at the Settings in the Admin Area -> Users & Roles"). The Main Difference between Roles and Ranks is that a user automatically is assigned to a specific Rank when the user has posted an x amount of messages. If you set up more then one rank its like a ladder system for the user

Thanks for your Quick response. Still i am not very much clear about Ranks what is the main purpose of the Ranks and how it can be usefull in YAF. what if Ranks is not there in YAF.

The main Purpose is to give users automatically the possible advancing their allowed Settings the more posts they make. For example you could define that a "newbie" with 10 posts or less is not allowed to include html tags in a signature, but you want to have an "Advanced Member" with more than 10 posts allowed to use html tags. If you don't wont to use Ranks its no problem, you only need the Roles which use the same Settings. Roles are manually assigned (Except the Roles which have the "IsStart" Flag) and Ranks can override the Settings if the are set up as "Is Ladder Group" and the user is automatically assigned to the Rank when he/she reached x amount of post.

we run an online portal and we need both roles and ranks on our forum ... We would like to keep the ranks in the ladder group and the roles in the non ladder group. ... is it possible?

Groups are always need to be manually assigned (with one exception for the Guest and Standard role).
