Hello

I have downloaded this new version of YAF; and am trying to install it on localhost - but having an issue repeatedly. Have tried nearly 5 times since last night; but can not figure out the reason & the solution. Please Help!!!

Project Folder for Installation : http://localhost/tempProject/application/forum/

Platform / IIS : Win XP SP2 with IIS6 ; and Win Vista Home Prof with IIS7 - I tried on both, but having same issue.

Problem : When installting the YAF, the URL gets rewritten; and localhost appears twice in URL. If I modify the URL in address-bar, then page seems to open fine. But then - I cannot save any settings etc.

e.g: http://localhost/rxonlinetoday/website/forum/install/ becomes http://localhost/localhost/rxonlinetoday/website/forum/install/

This looks quite wierd; but has made me tried almost everything. First thing first - the folder "forum" is a application folder in IIS running on ASPNET 2.0

I tried various installations by doing various changes in app.config; but cant figure out a solution at any point. I am not sure whether it will work on live as well with these issues or not.

These are some of the changes i have tried :-

1) I used the same app.config as supplied in the application. No Luck!!

2) Changed to the URL of folder. No luck!!

3) Changed app key for YAF.BaseUrl as well as YAF.BaseUrlOverrideDomain - still no luck

I am sure, the problem is only due to the key values to use in app.config

Any help or guidance will be appreciated.

Thanks

EDIT : RESOLVED AS PER POST #8

When I used the package provided settings from app.config; then after installation - when I click "finish", this is what the URL becomes -

http://localhost/tempProject/application/forumError.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/tempProject/application/forum/Default.aspx

The Try Again link on bottom of the page though gives proper link!!

Dear readers.... I am still stuck in same problem. The problem is happening on the live site as well!!

http://www.site.com/www.site.com/forums/install  folder - which comes up as URL Invalid error in IIS!!

Please Help!! I am running out of ideas on how to fix this thing up.

Hmm what results have you got if you don't use BaseURL and use the root setting in app.config ?

When I post FP:Mek in a topic, I'm leaving my footprint there so I can track it once I get into coding/supporting. (Yes I stole this off Ederon 🙂 )

If you make changes to app.config, don't you have to restart IIS for those changes to take effect? I know changes to web.config will automatically cause the webapp to re-read the config, but I'm not so sure about app.config.

Hi Mek

thanks for replying. I did upload the code on live server for direct installation. If you want - you can see it online.

This is the link to where i have uploaded the forum.

http://www.rxonlinetoday.com/forum

the moment i enter the config pwd here - say abc123 - and click next; it shows me an error screen. The current app.config file is as provided by YAF in the downloadable zip.

Dear imukai

Yeah - you are right about the app.config. so what i do is - after changing app.config; i rename the web.config open the app and then rename the web.config again; or i edit the web.config and press enter in the end of the page. :-d

Does your app.config have 'abc123' as the config pw? I had an issue in that spot where the installer tried to write my desired config pw into app.config but failed for permissions reasons. I added it manually and had no further issues (with that part of things, at least)

Towards the top of the config, and uncommented:

Ok... so I will close the thread, thanks to Imukai.

Readers - if it helps - my hosting company is godaddy; and i prefer to install yaf myself; rather than rely on go-daddy. The recommendation of Imukai works like breeze. I didnt do any other change in app.config - except giving the DB path in db.config.....

i am replacing the DMG forum with YAF. silly thing in DMG : it doesnt even have the forgot password :(

YAF Rocks!!
