Hi,

I have a website that I have on a managed server. I have a separate development/design company that created my site and I use to make some changes to it as needed. I use YAF as one of the features on my site. I recently had my development company upgrade to the newer version of YAF, because I am pretty illiterate with this sort of thing, it I didn't want to screw anything up. They billed me for 12 hours to make the upgrade. I was shocked, especially after reading the install instructions privided in the YAF wiki. I can't imagine why it would take so long. Am I off base, or am I being over billed?

Thanks,

Mike

What your asking is a very open ended question. To many variables.

If this "company" is not very familiar with YAF, I can see an upgrade taking that long. If not longer. Especially if they ran into data problems.

I'd ask them! Question the bill. Just be prepared for an answer your not going to like! :P

Agreed, way too many variables i.e. is it just YAF standalone? Do you use a standard theme? What versions you were upgraded to and from?

Asking for a cost breakdown in this situation would make the most sense.

"It's a case of RTFM.. the only problem being we don't have a manual!"

When I post FP:Mek in a topic, I'm leaving my footprint there so I can track it once I get into coding/supporting. (Yes I stole this off Ederon 🙂 )

Hi miket1970,

I am complete illiterate in tech issues and only good at writing content 🙂

http://www.aavakaaya.com  & www.kajjaya.com (in two South Indian languages).

For the second website, I am using YAF & my developer could able to install the forum within 6 hrs time. My billing was commensurate with what actually I need to pay for the job.

Better have a check on your developer team.
