Hello all,

We're moving our site to a new domain and I am unable to figure out how to move the forum over. Is there a config that need to be changed to point it to the new domain or how can I have to forum show up under the new domain?

Thank you!

What is the error you have and what version of YAF and are you using a Portal such as DotNetNuke or just YAF all by its lonesome?

As for things you want to change. Check db.config and app.config for domain specific items that need to be updated. You might have something cookie related in the web.config as well.

At this point it seems it doesn't even see the app:

Server Error in '/' Application.

The resource cannot be found.

Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

The only place I found a trace of the old domain was in the db.config file (as you suggested), changed it to the new URL but no luck. At some point I was able to get a message 'turn off custom messages in web.config' but did not find this file either. The only thing I still see on webhosting under installed apps: Yetanotherforum: Admin URL: 'http://oldDomain/yetanotherforum/' -- where 'oldDomain' is the previous domain. Maybe this path also needs to be changed, but of course they don't give you that option. Maybe I can uninstall this version and reinstall the new one? Would the database be also wiped with a reinstall or can I keep the database with tables, users and topics?

We're still on 1.9.4 at this point, planning to upgrade to the latest once I can get it working on the new site.

Thanks!

Hmm, the best I can offer is you're gonna have to get that new domain URL working before proceeding with YAF. Can you toss in a custom HTML and navigate to it successfully?

I haven't much experience using the webhosting tool of one click install or whatever method they use. I generally just create a new ASP.NET website, use 4.0 Integrated and then upload the install package and run the install wizard.

Create a new website.

Upload the latest version of YAF install files (don't install just yet)

Create a copy your DB

Point your new YAF website to the copied DB

Navigate to newDomain.com/install and test the db connection... if it connects, proceed with installing.

I have NOT done this so I am not 100% saying this will work, but I believe this will update your database and get you on the latest YAF version.

You should be able to copy over your theme/s and you might have to do some tweaking to get it working.

Thanks, that is exactly what my next thoughts were, if these keep failing as a last result I'll try dumping the old version and reinstall a brand new copy. First I'll try contacting the hosting company as it seems they have their hands in some of the paths/settings, maybe they also need to change some of these on their side. The forum was actually offered by them as part of the hosting package, I'm hoping they can provide some support. I know this should be just a matter of setting the correct path somewhere but again if all else fails I'll try uninstalling this version and run the new one -- I already backed up the database for safety. :|

I'll post an update soon as there is progress. Thanks for the help again!
