I couldn't find a setting for this..

Would deleting all the rank categories under admin settings remove the Rank field that is underneath the users's avatar?

I don't need the Rank feature, post count is good enough for me and I also want to make the posts shorter by removing this field.

In your host settings under the templates tab you can remove the rank tag from the user box template
