Can members create Topics or just admins?

Is it possible for non admins to create topics? Or they can only create posts within topics?

Regular users should be able to create topics, but you have to give them the rights to do so. Go to: Administration » Access Masks » Add/Edit Access Masks and check that "Member Access" has the rights to Read, Post, Reply, (and what-ever other access you want a regular member to have) that should allow regular members to be able to post. Make sure that you set members as "Approved" if you want them to have those rights.

If I want this:

Topic1 (only admins can create Topics, i.e. Topic2, Topic3, etc.)

-- Replies to Topic1 (users can post replies under Topic1)

Is that possible? When I set the mask on Topic1 to read only for members, they can no longer post under Topic1. I want them to post under Topic1. Just not create new Forum level post.

I'll see what I can find out for you, but I do know that when you set a user to Read only - that's what you get - read only. I think I understand what you want, so let me "play" with it a little and I'll let you know. Sorry I don't know off the top of my head - I have to go try the settings to see how it works, but maybe one of the others will have an answer.

Yes thats possible.

When you edit the access mask there a two checkboxes you need to adjust

"Reply Access" - Allows Users to Reply to existing Topics in a Forum.

"Post Access" - Allows Users to Post New Topics in a Forum.

The check box reply needs to be checked and post access unchecked.
