Hi,

Sorry if this question has already been asked, But i couldn't find it in the forum. I have godaddy Windows hosting running Yet Another Forum.net version 1.9.1.2 with around 300 registered users. I am planning to do some upgrades on my hosting plan. I want to know how can I backup this YAF so that I dont mess anything up and loose all members.

I.e, the backup should be the entire forum with all its settings, posts, registered members etc.

Please help. Thank you in advance!

PS: and few tips on restoring would also be helpful 🙂

You can backup the database through GoDaddy's SQL server control panel; the files on your server you'll have to FTP back to your local machine (if you want to save them).

If you upgrade, you'll be replacing most of the files anyway, but app.config, db.config. web.config, perhaps defauilt.aspx and (if you have an old version) yafnet.config should be saved.

Enjoy!

Thank you RichP714...if possible, plz clear my doubts on these too.

1.By making a bkp this way, do all my posts and registered members stay intact or would they be lost?

2.I wanted to host wordpress on my domain, but since its II6 on windows hosting, WP is not supported it seems. The customer support rep said that I should change my hosting plan to linux based for easier WP installation. If i change to Linux, would the YAF forum be affected in any way?

Thanks in advance.

1. all the posts, PMs, members, etc data are contained in the MSSQL database; the rest of the install is pages that run the forum. Backing up the database will backup the forum's contents

2. I don't think YAF is Linux, just windows (ASP)

Enjoy!

Ah yes! YAF is windows based :(

Hmm, any chances of migrating the registered members and posts to a fresh Linux based Forum??
